Happy National Nursing Week

We are now in Lukla with access to a computer so can send a post.

When Domhnall and I decided to climb Everest together, we thought that there would be a good possibility that we would summit during National Nursing Week. As it turns out, the mountain was ready for us a little earlier than we thought, and we didn't want to waste the opportunity. We thought that it would still be a good idea to use the climb to highlight the week as it holds great importance to us.

The thread of nursing is important in both our lives, as we are both Critical Care Nurses, and it is through work that we met and started working towards this common goal. This is just as when we are working together with our fellow nurses on the unit for our patients.
I am still trying to upload the picture that I want, and will do so in a few days when we get to Kathmandu.

Hi Lucille!
Congratulations!
Not only upon summitting the highest mountain on Earth, but upon planning out the steps in your life necessary to achieve this feat.
I'm not a climber, but I've read every book on climbing Mt. Everest that I can get my hands on. I've followed your blog from your training days on up, and am blown by the way that you write about yourself. Everything is understated. You're very humble, and yet you've handled everything necessary to pull off this incredible achievement.
Even your photo st the top is understated! Most climbers show themselves in oxygen mask, mitts, and scarfs, but there you are with an open smiling face, open jacket, bare hands, and best of all, an open Canadian Flag.
I'm really proud of you, and that's coming from a Calgarian, arch rival of most Edmontonians!

Hi Lucille:
I too can say that it is only sinking in that you were able to upset all odds and do it. I'm still not too sure how you overcome the obstacles, mind you I always had faith in you but Everest was quite a bit.
Last night at the meeting of our residents' association, I mention that you are prepared to show us a slide show, and there was a warm applaud for you.
I really enjoyed Tom's comments(Calgary) . Tom we were brought up by a mother who left Calgary, and the Lougheed bldg where she had a store, to be married and come to live in the Peace River region. My mother loved everything that had to do with Calgary. Even at the age of 84 she could identify most the Flames from the back (it was in the days of Lanny McDonald) We are now residing in Edmonton, but there is a soft spot in my heart for Calgary.

anxious to see you Lucille

With lots of love
