Quiet country road.  Almost no traffic for about 10 km!!!!

Where I am today.

Well, I’ve decided to change my route.  Today I was supposed to go North from Orillia to the Algonquin park, but instead I went south.  A couple of different reasons.  First…. I think I may be running out of time, and I would rather spend extra days if I have them in Nova Scotia.  Going up through Algonquin is farther, and much hillier this would take longer.  Campsites have been booked out for months…it’s that kind of a place.  Likely some campgrounds might have made a place for me…but that’s more work.  And…this morning there was a strong north wind, so going north did not make any sense….Algonquin will have to wait for another time.

I had a super late start this morning…I did some hand laundry and left it to dry on my bike.  Wouldn’t you know it, we had a thunderstorm this morning at 0600…my bike shorts and my yellow shirt along with my delicates were out there ☹️. I got up at 0730 to a blue sky with the sun shining….great!  I do need to walk to Tim’s for breakfast and change for the dryer….only 1km to walk each way. I looked around and noticed that one of my bags was not where I left it ….some animal chewed a hole on the side, and chewed through the zipper as well for the granola bars that were inside ☹️.  Not repairable on the road….but now I have less weight to carry….I've been carrying those granola bars since the first day….saving them for an emergency.  Now that I’m in populated area…. I likely won’t need them.  My spare tire tubes and a few other things to repair my bike were also in there, so I’ve done a makeshift repair, which should be good enough to last the rest of my trip.

So between that, and deciding my new route, how to get to Ottawa took up a fair bit of time.  Trying to find a campground that accepts tents, and where to buy dinner took up the rest of the time. It was getting warm by the time I headed off, and although it got fairly warm, it was never unbearable.

The route to Orillia looks funny, but there isn’t a direct route to there, and I did find a few small country roads without any traffic which was so nice.  The rest of the day, there was constant fast traffic with a narrow shoulder.  Constant attention to the road and mirror, checking the shoulder to see if it’s safe to move onto it if needed.

I’m now in farm land….and it feels a bit like the prairies….its much more open here.  I was feeling closed in with all those days of trees.  I love looking at the crops growing…wheat, corn, sweet clover.  Lots of silos here, and older barns, some cattle.  I feeling like I can look around…as I can see so much farther with the open fields.  Homesteads are nice too…. I love to look at the yards.

So now I’m snug in my tent….I've killed the two mosquitoes that entered when I got in, so I can go to sleep!!!

Proof positive that you dont need to big to get peoples attention, mosquitos. But if you want to stay alive and you are tiny you should be quiet and invisible unlike the mosquitos. You are getting your work cut out for you working the GPS and setting up routes. If only we had been that good with electronics when we were doing lots of paragliding eh. Hope you have another great day stacking up the miles. Hugs from here
