Hello everyone…I’m in Ottawa today!!! WhoopWhoop. It felt like I was stalled in Ontario - inching forward, slowly slowly. Now suddenly I’m in Ottawa, and will be moving into Québec tomorrow if the rain holds off. 😀
Today was forecasted to be about the same temp as yesterday, so I didn’t feel the need to get up too early. I departed the campground at 0645, and was on the dreaded hwy7…but only 20 km and then I’m done with that highway!!!
I arrived in the town of Perth an hour after departing the campground. From the highway, riding through town it just looks like every other town, gas station, Tim’s etc. I had been told this town had a great downtown and although I was anxious to make tracks with the weather forecast of another hot day, I decided to turn in. Well, this small town is gorgeous, so worthwhile to have stopped. The historical section is several blocks with restored brick buildings and a lush park with a river running through it. Unfortunately I was too early for the chocolate shop to be open, but I did find a breakfast spot for tea and food before continuing on.
The next road that I was on had wide shoulders and very little traffic….heaven!!! About an hour later I stopped under a tree for the shade to cool down a bit and drink some water. Very hot and humid. Back on the bike for another 45 min where I found a Tim’s to cool off. I was trying to find the best way into Ottawa, on paths if possible while avoiding any 400 level roads. After texting with my host a few times it was decided that Mark would cycle out to find me and bring me in. It was at this point that I noticed the black clouds behind me….yikes…thunderstorm watch. Cycle faster!!!
Marc led me to his place, but the skies opened up about 5 min before we arrived….nice way to cool off a bit. I was treated so well by Jenny and Marc…shower, laundry, lunch, cool drinks, dinner and now a comfortable bed. So much luxury in a day!!!
Forecast is for rain tomorrow….but if it holds for a bit, I will do some sightseeing before heading off towards Montréal.
