Hello everyone….tough day today. I got away from the campground at a decent time, and stopped for breakfast not long after. By 0900 it was already getting hot. I followed Hwy 7, which has narrow to at times non-existent shoulders, and lots of traffic. It is Friday! It was a bit hilly the entire way…but once I got close to Peterborough the hills were unbelievable. Straight up and down with no flat spots 🥵. One hill after another after another. At least I was on some back roads with very little traffic.
With the heat I took lots of breaks, and made it to a small town called Havelock, and I’m in a campground about 8 km out of town which I will have to backtrack tomorrow morning. I called up the campground, Janet answered, and said they are full. Are you sure I asked, just me and a small tent on a bicycle. Well sure we have room was the reply….a woman, on her own….headed to NL….heavens….come on by!!!! She’s so sweet! Has owned the campground for over 40 years.
After checking it, and chatting about my trip, meeting Janet’s husband, and heard about her cat Smoky - RIP, I went to set up my tent. I was to set up beside Howard….oh, I thought of our Howie….miss him. This man wasn’t him….no ‘hello darling, how are you doing?’ Just a gruff hello and back in his trailer. Then I met Kelly and Duane….oh….another reminder of my friends. This Duane is similar to our Duane….came to try to fix the shower so I could have hot water….didn’t work but he came and tried. Then I had a nice visit with them by the fire.
The campground is situated on a lagoon, and the bullfrogs are serenading us!!!! Might not have that early start tomorrow if this keeps up!!!! Tomorrow is another hot day….not sure how far I will get.
