 HAPPY CANADA DAY 🇨🇦

Today I would like to encourage everyone to explore more of our beautiful Canada.  It’s vast….so that means that there’s something for everyone to explore …from the mountains, to the prairies, to the Great Lakes and beyond.  There is so much to see and do, but more importantly there are many people to meet and see how they live, listen to what their issues and concerns are and realize that we are best as a unified Canada. 🍁

Today I went for a tour of the lighthouse on Chantry island.  We can see the lighthouse from the beach where I’m staying and my host Patt volunteers there.  We take a boat ride to get there, and in June there’s only one tour a day a Chantry Island is a bird sanctuary, and it is only through special permission that these tours are allowed.  No one else is allowed to step foot on the island.  Everyone is a volunteer from the boat operators, the people who maintain the lighthouse, the keepers cabin, the gardeners….everyone except the students who conduct the tours, they are paid through a special grant.  The lighthouse has long been automated, thus the need for lighthouse keepers has vanished.  This is one of the very few imperial light houses that remain, and very few in Canada that have been restored and allow tours.

After the tour we headed into Southampton to tour the town and for a bite to eat.  Back at the cabin to watch the fireworks.  A great way to spend Canada Day!!!!
