My reward for all that hard work today

Hard to see in the photo, but it’s really steep.

What a fantastic day!!!!  I got to bed late last night as I was chatting around a fire with camp neighbours ….listening to the bullfrogs in the lagoon 😀.  I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get up early this morning.

This morning I got up at 0440, packed up and cycled 8 km back into town.  A stop at Tim’s for breakfast, and I was on my way.  The early start was to try and be done before the day got too hot.  I had a light headwind all day, and that really helped to keep me cool.  The road was easy cycling….well the hills, the shoulders are narrow, and although most people gave me room…there were a few who got fairly close.

I made sure to stop and buy water, drink the water, and a few times just stopped in the shade as it was a hot day.  Around noon I figured I would make this campground, so I called and booked a spot.

I was checking my mileage, and my speed figuring I would be done early today!  Yipppeeee!  I’m quite behind on my journaling as the last few days have been quite long and late.  I came upon a rest area that had a body of water near….so I headed over and splashed myself all over with the water….that felt so good!  I chatted with the lady that was there.

Not long after, Stewart noticed a trail that wouldn’t be too far out of my way.  I looked at it, and thought that a rest from Hwy 7 would be really nice….it was getting crazy with the amount of traffic on it, not giving me much space.  Well it turns out that the detour was hilly….really hilly….roller coaster hilly….and gravel.  I pushed my bike up some of the hills….and some down too when it was so steep that I couldn’t see the road 😳   This was excellent training for the Gaspé area as I’m told that’s really hilly there too.

The area was heavily treed, so not much for views….just trees and gravel.  This prairie girl is yearning for the wide open spaces of farm land.  I have been seeing farmland the past few days which is good, but now I was back in the trees.  Well, nothing to do but continue.  I could see on my phone where I was going…and how much farther I had to go.  The only bad part was the horse flies….so many of them.  I could not swat them when I was going up….too steep to let go of the handle bars….nor down because I was on my brakes.  I’m certain that they were determined to carry me off one bite at a time 😂😂😂

Eventually I made it to a town, just off the highway….and I stopped and treated myself to an orange float and a bottle of water.  Then it was back on the highway for about 20 km to a restaurant for dinner, take out, and another 3 km to the campsite.

I set up camp, had dinner, made friends with my camp neighbours who helped me out with a container to place my food, and showed me where I could plug my devices at an unused site.  Overall a great day.  Tomorrow Ottawa and a stay with friends….then Montreal and a stay with family.  This is amazing!!!!!  I have loved many parts of Ontario….but I’ve been here almost a month!  Hard to believe..,,so it’s time for another province 😀😀😀

Good work on struggling through the heat and the black flies to reach your camp!

Yes, Ontario is huge. So is Quebec, but you will be travelling the narrow part. Then the Maritimes are much smaller, so crossing borders will come faster! You are doing great!!!
