May 7 - Day One to Woss

The rear wheel has been baptized in the waters of Queen Charlotte Straight to signal the beginning of the adventure.

The cell service up here is pretty sketchy so the chance of live tracking for the next couple of days is unlikely.  She may not even get to make a post herself, but between me and Lorraine, we will try and post updates as we know more.  I think an InReach Mini may be waiting for her when she reaches Parksville.
Ted

What a day!!!!  I’m so excited that to be started….but I do have to admit that last night, while lying awake it bed, I was trying to figure out how to get out of this trip๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ .  But this morning, I was raring to go!!!  The temperature was great, no rain today and very little wind.  My plan was a campground 30 km from here, but I got there much too early in the day….so kept on going to Woss, for a total of 107km 500 m elevation gain.
I thought that this road would be quiet….but it’s super busy, cars, trucks, campers and loads of logging trucks.  The shoulder is gravel, most of the time hard packed but sometimes deep loose sandy rocky mess.
I made it into Woss around 1700, and sought shelter from the rain in an open gazebo in a park.  No restaurant so a gas station burger did the trick.
I met a fellow cyclist….from NZ.  He left Vancouver 5 days ago, plans on taking the ferry at Port Hardy up to prince Rupert, then cycling up to Tuc!!!!  Now that is crazy.  If anyone thought what I’m doing is crazy….I’m quite sane in comparison !

I can’t up load any photos, but maybe Ted can of the campsite.
I’m not sure of the plan for tomorrow…..might be 75km to Sayward, or 140 to Campbell River.  Stay tuned!
