I didn’t take many photos today as I was trying to get to the campground before it got too late. The days are quite short right now….sunrise at 0730 and sunset at 2830, and it was so chilly this morning that I delayed in the coffee shop until it warmed up a bit.
I rode through a few towns today, one town - Louiseville had some type of festival. Many stalls were set up and music was playing in the streets. Unfortunately I didn’t take the time to find out what was going on.
I managed to set up my tent and get into the sleeping bag before dark which was my objective. I’m wearing all my clothes, down jacket, toque and mittens to stay warm tonight. This is the only really cold night, the next few nights will be quite a bit warmer so much more comfortable to camp. Hard to believe that just a few days ago it was so warm at night that I couldn’t even get into my sleeping bag! Certainly fall weather….and I’m so grateful for all the lovely weather that I’ve enjoyed. I’ll be picking up the rental car tomorrow morning….just need to pack up and cycle 12km. I’ll have it for two days….enough time to visit some places that I wouldn’t be able to see otherwise. Should be fun. Only a couple of photos today.

Just a few km on the pathway I passed by the river and a spot that a few days ago I wanted to stop at. I also didn’t stop yesterday due to the rain, but this morning I hopped off my bike and took some photos. Then I noticed that there was a path in the woods with a sign that said chutes (waterfall) 750 m. So I rode that way…what a spectacular sight to see. The waterfall itself wasn’t all that impressive, but with the colourful trees behind…I much have taken 30 photos from different vantage points. The light was cooperating, and I’m really happy with the photos.
After spending almost an hour taking the photos, I went searching for some tea and breakfast. I’ve now decided that I don’t have time to cycle to Québec city, but I should be able to make it to Trois Rivières tomorrow, and from there I will rent a car and head to the Saguenay area, back through Québec city to Trois Rivières to drop off the vehicle. It will be a 100km cycle tomorrow which I should be able to manage if I don’t stop too often for photos! I’ll bring my bike with me in the vehicle and hopefully cycle the trails up there a bit. Fingers crossed that not all the leaves have fallen
There were a few sprinkles which turned into a full storm with thunder and lightning. I took shelter under a tree for about 45 min through the worst of it. When it was almost stopped I continued, but it was only a few km later that I caught up to it. I found shelter again at a school baseball diamond and the third time in a restaurant. The decided to find a room close by. I got back onto the p’tit train du nord pathway headed north for a few km….unfortunately this part of the path wasn’t paved, so the bike and bags got quite gritty and muddy. Once in the hotel I took everything off the bike….hung up the damp clothes, washed the bag, and rinsed off the bike outside. It has rained hard most of the day, which is great for the area. They have not seen any rain for almost two months, so a day long soaking rain will certainly help.
I’m running out of time to get to Quebec City and back, and I’m still uncertain what to do. The forecast for the rest of my time here looks good for cycling….so tomorrow morning I’ll head out on the bike, and see how far I get. 😀
I rode the path to St Sauveur, a nice ski town with lots of shops. I went into a few shops to look around, then into the grocery store to pick up a bottle of wine and some goodies for my host family tonight. The sister of my good friend Linda. The family cabin is on lake Curran …such a lovely spot, although quite hilly and circuitous to get here. I didn’t follow the GPS, as I found a more direct route, but who knows which way would have been best! I’m managed to fit the bottle of wine in my clothing bag, and the goodies in a small backpack that I carry. Now I know that I can carry a bottle of wine 😀😀😀 🍷🍷🍷!!!
Forecast for tomorrow is rain, so I’m not sure what I’m going to do. Lots of options, and I’ll wait until tomorrow to decide….see how long and how much it rains, and how I feel. I would love to head up to Quebec City, but it’s starting to feel too far away to get there and back before my flight on Oct 15. Wait and see what I decide in the morning 😀
After packing up this morning I headed to the mountain ski village of Mont Tremblant…about a 15 km ride. It’s quite amazing that there are so many bike routes, and I know this is a very touristy area but they sure take care of the cyclists. Plus everyone here seems to follow a few simple rules. Despite me encountering over 100 cyclists/walkers/roller skiers today, no bells were rung, and everyone was safe. Walkers used half of the path, only two abreast at most. Cyclists would wait behind the walkers, or slower cyclists until the path ahead was clear and only then would they pass. A cyclist never put a pedestrian in danger.
The views today were spectacular….unfortunately the camera does not highlight the true red color of the maple leaves. I tried many different camera settings but the reds aren’t as vibrant as in real life ☹️. It didn’t help that it was so sunny today, and I was taking pictures into the sun.
I’m going to head towards Québec city….likely take me 4 days to get there. Hopefully the leaves won’t be all blown off before I get there, as the weather is supposed to turn in a few days.
